'Big stage' Sancho back to scintillating best in Champions League semi
Borussia Dortmund's coach Edin Terzic commended Jadon Sancho's sterling performance in the 1-0 victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. Terzic praised Sancho for his excellent performance and ability to replicate his training ground practises, a feat difficult to achieve for many when lacking a regular game rhythm.
The triumphant coach acknowledged Sancho’s quality and demonstrated how instrumental he was for the win. Sancho himself understands that despite their victory, the tie is not over. Anticipating the second leg of the series, Sancho stated that Dortmund must now head to Paris to ensure they secure a spot in the Champions League final scheduled for June at Wembley.
Sancho’s performance illustrated the talent that prompted his big-money move from Dortmund to Manchester United in 2021. He consistently distressed the PSG defence, exploiting both flanks and the midfield area. In an opportune moment, Sancho delivered a skilful pass to Julian Brandt, creating a potential scoring situation that was thwarted by PSG's Marquinhos' sturdy defence.
In an interview with CBS Sports, Sancho attributed part of the team’s success to the overwhelming 80,000 fans that consistently show up to support them, motivating the team from start to finish. The England winger intends to replicate this class performance in the second leg at Parc des Princes.
Sancho, who is currently on a six-month loan to Dortmund from Manchester United, barely featured in United’s first team before his loan move. Since arriving at Dortmund, he has played three games as a substitute in the quickly dwindling Premier League season, his last appearance being in August. Although there has been speculation about a potential return to Manchester United, Sancho prefers to focus on his present responsibilities at Dortmund.
